Spain is one of the best destinations in the world; known for its rich culture, it is an absolute pick for tourists from all over the world — not even the pandemic stopped people from going to Madrid. Madrid, Spain is considered as a romantic city to be in. Many honeymooners choose this place as it brings out the love coming from the beauty of the city, with elegant boulevards and expansive parks, couples truly enjoy sightseeing around. If you’re planning to book a trip to Madrid, make sure to directly go to Cathay Pacific to experience a convenient way of booking flights.

As beautiful as walking around or staying in Madrid, you can’t always be perfectly comfortable especially if you’re a tourist; there are things that you should avoid when visiting Madrid:

1.) Don’t go into crowded areas

Save yourself from getting infected by COVID-19 by not joining into a very crowded area. A place full of people, like sardines in a can, is prone to getting Coronavirus. It’s best if you practice social distancing and follow safety procedures. Bring a hand sanitizer, too.

2.) Watch your belongings

It’s a no-brainer to mind your things and not living them unattended wherever you go. Madrid is a very safe city, but that doesn’t mean tourists are safe from pickpockets — we know that visitors are often distracted with their surroundings and may be carrying expensive belongings. Keep a close on and watch your belongings, be sure to use a bag that zips, locks, and carry your wallet in your front pocket on the subway, or when visiting crowded tourist attractions.

3.) Don’t get up too early

Just like in other cities, most of the attractions in Madrid, cafes and shops only open at 9:00 or 10:00 AM. So, unless you have other morning plans like jogging, strolling in the park, or just wandering around the streets of Madrid, getting up early would be completely off. Take it from someone who was trying to get breakfast in Madrid at 7:30 AM, believe me, it was not easy to find one around. Kind of a bummer.

4.) Avoid cabs as much as possible

If there’s one important thing that I advise you not to do in Madrid is taking cabs or taxis. Madrid is one of the easiest cities to get around. You can find a Metro station on every other corner, so this is essentially the best way to move around and get from one place to another. Madrid’s Metro system also has a connection going to the airport, so there’s no need for you to take a cab if you’re going to the city center. If you’re looking for other public transportations, there also are buses, light rail, and trains, so even taking day trips outside the city is easy peasy.

5.) Not everyone can speak English

Do not expect everyone to speak in English. This one is more of a fact rather than assuming every local in Madrid can speak English, so this one is important to know. Most people in Spain do not speak English. Even young people don’t always know English, so don’t expect everyone to understand what you’re saying. However, most Spaniards are very kind and they will try to help you as much as they can.

There are thousands of things to do in Spain, let alone in Madrid. From sightseeing to shopping, every single second of your time there will be more magical and worth coming back. Just remember all the possibilities of what you must avoid doing and surely, you will enjoy your visit to Madrid.
